Things to do in Revel and around

Revel is a royal bastide founded in 1342, with a wooden market hall in the middle of its square and a market every Saturday morning. Around it: the lake, Sorèze, the Montagne Noire and the Canal du Midi. All times are from the loft.

10 min from the loft

The Saturday morning market

Every Saturday morning the market fills the hall and the square around it. The hall dates from the 14th century: 39 metres a side, 79 oak pillars, with the belfry rebuilt in 1834 at its centre. Revel's market is regularly listed among the most beautiful in France; people drive from Toulouse for the Lauragais producers.

The bastide

Founded in 1342 by Philip VI, Revel is laid out on a grid of streets converging on the square, lined with covered galleries of brick, wood and stone. An hour is enough for the square and the streets around it.

The wood and marquetry museum

Revel is a furniture-making town. The museum in the town centre shows the wood trades, from cabinetmaking to marquetry, with pieces from local workshops.

Around Revel

From the loft's door

Several walks and bike rides start from the hamlet, between the fields of the Lauragais. The greenway to Castres passes through Revel.
